Description of CME Course

In the US, drug and opioid overdose deaths have nearly quadrupled over the last decade. Synthetic opioid-related deaths increased 850% in women. Nearly 85% of pregnancies in women with opioid use disorder are unintended. During pregnancy, chronic untreated substance and opioid use disorders are associated with lack of prenatal care, preterm birth, fetal death, and other pregnancy complications. Pregnant women with SUD/OUD who seek prenatal care need comprehensive therapy. This activity will present a brief overview of SUD in pregnancy and explore management principles related to universal screening, SBIRT (screening-brief interview-referral to treatment), and opioid agonist therapy.
