Description of CME Course

Not so long ago, bariatric or obesity surgery was considered experimental and not covered by health insurance. Now, numerous high-quality randomized controlled studies have shown that metabolic surgery has powerful antidiabetic effects for obese Type 2 Diabetic (T2D) patients. In most cases it can cause remission of diabetes and prevent the development of complications of diabetes. Even those not achieving remission have improved glycemic control, reduced medication regimens, and reduced complications of diabetes. This activity will review the current guidelines and offer recommendations on educating patients on the new evidence.
