Description of CME Course
Health care systems are a major contributor to climate change. The health sector accounts for about 8.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This is due to several factors, including the use of energy-intensive equipment and buildings, the transportation of patients and staff, and the production and disposal of medical waste. Climate change is a major threat to public health. The effects of climate change, such as extreme heat, air pollution, and infectious diseases, are already having a negative impact on human health. These impacts are expected to worsen in the future, particularly among vulnerable populations. Climate change is exacerbating existing health inequities. People who are already marginalized and vulnerable are at increased risk of the health impacts of climate change. Physician advocacy is essential to driving action to address climate change challenges.
AI in Medicine is the buzz of the times, The potential for AI is vast, spans across all systems, and can assist physicians in delivering efficient quality care. The implementation, impact and outcomes of this important digital health development and its fair and equitable use may not be readily available to physicians. The role of physicians will continue to evolve significantly in the coming years, not only because of AI in Medicine, but also because of climate change and the changing demographics that will contribute to shaping the future of medicine. “The next decade will see considerable transformation in how health systems are designed, propelled by opportunities such as digital health, growing consumerism, and mounting financial constraints. The Covid-19 pandemic has also necessitated and accelerated significant transformations.” (Health Care 2030: The Coming Transformation, NEJM Catalyst)
