Description of CME Course
To help improve communication skills, this series of three modules will provide anesthesiologists with an overview on introducing themselves, establishing roles and their leadership, avoiding jargon and using nonverbal communication. Each topic area will include an overview of best practices followed by video examples to help participants improve and enhance their skills.

Educational Objectives
Module 1: Introducing Yourself, Establishing Roles
Recognize the public’s lack of awareness about anesthesiologists and what they do
Demonstrate how to introduce themselves and other team members in a way that clearly establishes and explains the anesthesiologist’s role as leader of the Anesthesia Care Team
Module 2: Avoiding Jargon
Recognize that using medical terms during physician-patient communications often prevents patients from understanding important information and directives
Eliminate jargon from patient interactions and use clear language instead
Module 3: Nonverbal Communication
Recognize that nonverbal cues, including body language, play a significant role in effective patient communications
Utilize nonverbal cues, including body language, to convey attentiveness and openness
