Description of CME Course

Failed airway management is a major contributor to patient morbidity and mortality. Inadequate planning and judgment contribute to patient harm.

This activity contributes to the patient safety CME requirement for the CME component of the American Board of Anesthesiology’s (ABA) redesigned Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology™ (MOCA®) program, known as MOCA 2.0®. Please consult the ABA website, www.theABA.org, for a list of all MOCA 2.0 requirements.

Educational Objectives

Conduct a preoperative airway assessment of the patient and be able to identify features of the exam correlated with a possible difficult airway.
Identify strategies for airway management in the anatomically difficult airway.
Perform the appropriate steps using the ASA difficult airway algorithm upon encountering an unanticipated difficult airway.
