Educational Objectives

The goal of the patient conference is to facilitate patient centered care where all specialties participate in the evaluation and planning of surgical, interventional, or medical management. The meeting facilitates collaboration of knowledge, dissemination of knowledge and the application of research to clinical care arenas. The multi-specialty group format improves patient safety fostering a systems based care approach. The format and video conferencing allows regional specialists to join the conference enhancing referral base and all of the above for patients living outside the Portland metro. Participants will be able to plan for corrective repair of common congenital heart disease conditions such as tetralogy of Fallot, ventricular septal defect, single ventricle, coarctation of the aorta, double outlet right ventricle, hypoplastic left heart syndrome, atrial septal defect, complete heart block. Participants will be able to improve patient outcomes by learning additional strategies for heart failure management, such as new or alternative medications. Participants will be able to manage unrepaired cases better after understanding the timing of surgery for these conditions. Participants will better plan for surgery when individual cases and diagnostic questions are discussed at individual and programmatic levels.
