Description of CME Course
Persons with Intellectual Disability/Developmental Disability (ID/DD) experience complex physical, medical, emotional and social problems which requires coordination of medical care across multiple disciplines. This webinar reviews the causes and consequences of intellectual and developmental disabilities, suggests strategies for examining and managing associated health care challenges and focuses on how to develop thoughtful diagnostic and therapeutic strategies as part of a medical team.

Educational Objectives
Discuss the causes, consequences, and challenges of intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Distinguish syndromes and their complications, and identify management strategies.
Recognize medical co-morbidities common in certain ID/DD associated syndromes.
Assemble a comprehensive health history, preferably in advance, and utilizing multiple informants if possible.
Develop skills of developmentally appropriate and respectful communication with the patient (rather than with the caregivers only).
Design strategies for promoting optimal health.
